Love Aaj Kal

Some times even the small things make a difference,& if you try to wrap this small innovations & present it to Imitaiaz ,he comes up with his new flick Love Aaj Kal.

Love Aaj Kal is a movie often told in our Hindi movies but this time uses a innovative line of attack & reverse engineering approach of reciting the story which profitably foresees the concept of director & gives strong hints about the theme of film i.e experimental & trying to be unique.

Love Aaj Kal is a movie with a simple love story , nothing much to tell about the story of the movie ,for me the film is all about some stylish dialogues voyaging between a modern bewildered love story & its heritage counterpart with a Punjabi tadka .

The movie starts with rounds of engagements between Raj played by Saif & Meera played by Deepika living dangerously in abroad mingling with each other day & night but apparently realize over a period of time that they are far too serious about their careers rather than their love life ,finally deciding to part their ways &break up.

Here enters the proxy Hero of the film ,Rishi Kappor who tells Raj the importance of love in his own distinctive way by getting into his old reminiscences imagining his young part as Raj. But as you can expect from a true bollywood love story ,love reconciles again & the protagonists start feeling the pinch for their love &start conniving to initiate rounds of ditching their current partners & in mid of all this as all hindi films ends with smiles, lastly manage to convene their lifes at the end.

Talking about the Characters Saif( as Raj) is more like a Aamir khan in Dil Chahta Hai consistently denying the existence of love & relationship ,with the only difference being his hamming in multiple occasions with his patent “kya…ye sach hai”…”I cant belive it” type of dialogues. But in the end he covers it all with his Punjabi role which is a delight to watch & impresses in most of the scenes with his group of lafangas..

Deepika Padukone again successfully furnishes a monotonous &expressionless performance of her & alienates herself from the basics of acting .For example take the scene in which she puts in the picture of Raj & his association with her in front of his husband played by Rahul Khanna & pleads deliberately to run away from their relationship .She looks too comical in that scene & believe me I found people laughing at this scene contrary to being serious. But to some extent it can get discounted in the climax scenes where she fairly does justice to her acting profession & showcases her acting without any real talent.

Rishi kapoor is better loved a s imaginative young Saif than himself, but he also gives a good performance.Neetu kapoor & Rahul khanna does play their little cameos perfectly.

But for me Harleen kaur is the real star of the film with Sikh Saif whose cute modicum presence fills all the gulches which Deepika creates.

The movie should be better known as a good film other than a entertainer. In the end I give it 3 stars & must watch rating for the lovely Harleen –Saif love story & his Punjabi group, take my words you will love them as well.

  1. I'll have to agree with the reviewer on all accounts in this case. This is a nice sweet love story and if u discount Deepika from the expectations list, it will make for an even better watch.

U'd have read almost everything about the movie from the above review. The director has fumbled on a couple of accounts. First he should've cast some other fille instead of Deepika, for she mercilessly murders the whole character of Meera with her dead pan face and emotionless eyes and she shoots the dialogues as if some teacher has asked her to recite the poem from her textbook. If only smiling could be mistook for acting she'd be a superstar. All through the movie no matter how hard you try to impel yourself to like her character you only end up heaving a sigh of relief when she breaks up with saif and u seriously hope that Saif would never patch up with her.

Second, the director should've worked a little more on developing the characters. U hardly see any chemistry going on between them to suggest that they are so much in love that they will reunite in the end. If not for Saif's recourse to Rishi Kapoor and the unflinching act of Rishi Kapoor of acting almost like a broker who pushes saif towards Deepika, the story wud've taken a different oourse. The story could've done with some more mushy sequences to make it look and feel like a genuine love story.

The flashback of Rishi Kapoor is indeed the strongest point of the movie and the lovely Harleen walks away with all the accolades for her cute demeanour. She invariably acts with her eyes and speaks volumes even with just 2 dialogues.

All in all a good watch but a little more work on the screenplay and right casting wud've made this movie a classic.
