Love Aaj Kal

Some times even the small things make a difference,& if you try to wrap this small innovations & present it to Imitaiaz ,he comes up with his new flick Love Aaj Kal.

Love Aaj Kal is a movie often told in our Hindi movies but this time uses a innovative line of attack & reverse engineering approach of reciting the story which profitably foresees the concept of director & gives strong hints about the theme of film i.e experimental & trying to be unique.

Love Aaj Kal is a movie with a simple love story , nothing much to tell about the story of the movie ,for me the film is all about some stylish dialogues voyaging between a modern bewildered love story & its heritage counterpart with a Punjabi tadka .

The movie starts with rounds of engagements between Raj played by Saif & Meera played by Deepika living dangerously in abroad mingling with each other day & night but apparently realize over a period of time that they are far too serious about their careers rather than their love life ,finally deciding to part their ways &break up.

Here enters the proxy Hero of the film ,Rishi Kappor who tells Raj the importance of love in his own distinctive way by getting into his old reminiscences imagining his young part as Raj. But as you can expect from a true bollywood love story ,love reconciles again & the protagonists start feeling the pinch for their love &start conniving to initiate rounds of ditching their current partners & in mid of all this as all hindi films ends with smiles, lastly manage to convene their lifes at the end.

Talking about the Characters Saif( as Raj) is more like a Aamir khan in Dil Chahta Hai consistently denying the existence of love & relationship ,with the only difference being his hamming in multiple occasions with his patent “kya…ye sach hai”…”I cant belive it” type of dialogues. But in the end he covers it all with his Punjabi role which is a delight to watch & impresses in most of the scenes with his group of lafangas..

Deepika Padukone again successfully furnishes a monotonous &expressionless performance of her & alienates herself from the basics of acting .For example take the scene in which she puts in the picture of Raj & his association with her in front of his husband played by Rahul Khanna & pleads deliberately to run away from their relationship .She looks too comical in that scene & believe me I found people laughing at this scene contrary to being serious. But to some extent it can get discounted in the climax scenes where she fairly does justice to her acting profession & showcases her acting without any real talent.

Rishi kapoor is better loved a s imaginative young Saif than himself, but he also gives a good performance.Neetu kapoor & Rahul khanna does play their little cameos perfectly.

But for me Harleen kaur is the real star of the film with Sikh Saif whose cute modicum presence fills all the gulches which Deepika creates.

The movie should be better known as a good film other than a entertainer. In the end I give it 3 stars & must watch rating for the lovely Harleen –Saif love story & his Punjabi group, take my words you will love them as well.

Kambakht Isshqqq urff KI

If you like Akshay kumar & what he has been doing in his last one year flicks, here is another broken gem in his wooden crown ,the recent bollywood-hollywood disaster named KAMBAKHT ISHQ.

KAMBAKHT ISHQ was never supposed to have breathtaking story & undoubtedly lives it to its expectations. The film very carelessly kills the bacha khucha Indian tradition & crosses all boundaries of vulgarity & nudity but In mid of all this it has got moments of its own that can make you laugh & titter.

Unfortunately such scenes are classified to 1st half & frantically missed in 2nd half of the movie.

KAMBAKHT ISHQ is about a Hollywood stuntman & his bunch of desi & Firangi Chelas who don’t have any job other than indulging in cat fights with a confused model cum doctor, who hates man(s) the same way I hate Ekta Kapoor serials thanks to his father & family.

Akshay the male protagonist in the movie plays the role of the Hollywood stuntman who is rich & famous

unlike his bollywood counterparts & gives them enough reasons to go for a strike.

Kareena plays the spectrum of roles in the movie that of a model, doctor, a bad prostitute and a schmaltzy women. But unfortunately with her this avatar for me it’s a spectrum which you better want to lock it in a dark black box & forget the keys.

In terms of other characters the film once again revisits struggle of Aftab Shivdasani who plays a respectable C grade chela plus husband & is paired opposite Amrita Arora who is better known as Malaika’s sister than an actress to me .Javed Jaffery & Bomman Irani’s cameos account for the films some degree of light moments.

Film also canvasses the big Hollywood stars like Silver Stallone,Denice Richards & our superman Brandon Routh who as per screen presence doesn’t feature in my good books but certainly feature a lot of times in producers cheque book.

Other actors of the film are like Anu Malik’s music that doesn’t deserve any comments as their presence was more like a torture than a performance, even the gifted Kambakht Ishqran Kher falls short of leaving any impact.

At the end the film works for me because of Akshay & Javed jaffery.

I give it 2 stars & one time watch evaluation; don’t go with any expectations as this word is alien to the concept of the film. Watch it for Akshay kumar & mainly for the title song by RDB.

Movie Review:LUCK BY CHANCE

I you are die hard admirers of William Shakespeare and trust his lines
“All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances….”.Then LUCK BY CHANCE is undoubtedly a movie you should look for here the stage being the Bollywood.

Yes LUCK BY CHANCE is a movie which twitters deeply into Bollywood and showcases the life of those who sometimes devote their life for a movie, but in the end, leave their fate to be decided in the outcome of 3 hours.

The film is about an aspirant Farhan Akhtar who comes from his hometown with a yearning to be an actor in Bollywood, and as the title suggests the luck smiles on him and eventually he lands up in a movie under a big banner.
This all happens to him with the help of another aspirant Konkana sen, beleaguered to be an actress, but dejectedly finds herself type casted in Bhojpuri films and sister type roles.
The movie then shows usual tussles and the monotonous melodrama about the struggler turned star and her struggling companion, distant from the end as the movie ends in a very non Bollywood fashion.

The movie is very well boxed up and full marks to Joya for delivering the real essence of bollywood and the way she handles the galaxy of stars in the movie with candid perfection.
The film has some high-quality scenes which deracinate the buried truth and de- mask the image of divas or stars which we enclose.
Like the scene in which Hrithik who plays Zafar khan who gives a sweetening repudiation for a role in the movie of his godfather or the one in which Dimple outbursts her fury on the magazine editor or the so called personal nail assistant she had.

To a certain degree movie has sharpening contrast to Madhur Bhandarkar movies with my difference being that everybody other than the protagonists is not a devil at this juncture.

LUCK BY CHANCE is undoubtedly a good film but not a great entertainer. The movie has its own patience testing times.

The film has a star studded starcast.
With LUCK BY CHANCE ,Farhan after "Rock On" soars far ahead concreting firmly his stand in bollywood.
Konkana sen once again delivers benchmark performance and adds another feather to her cap.
Juhi chawala is wasted as the spouse of Rishi kapoor who plays the character of a filthy superistious producer which puzzled me fully whether he entertained me or annoyed me.

Dimple kapadia as mother of Isha Sharavani gives a fine performance and gives life to the character she plays.
Isha Sharavani ,Sanjay Kapoor give fine performance in the little cameos they play.

The fact which cant be discounted is the poor show by Javed Akhtar ,his dailogues
lacked the shine ,completely disregarding 2 things ,first that they come from
one of the preeminent writers of all times and second by a father whose son is a protagonist in the movie and daughter who is the protagonist behind the movie.

In the end LUCK BY CHANCE is worthy of 3 stars and a good movie rating, the supplementary star I bestow to Joya who commands her ingress with a bang in the busy traffic of budding directors.

Slumdog Millionaire Review

I still remember that bulky Bhagwan dada moving his booties in the song "Naam bade aur darshan chhote",Slumdog Millionaire is a film which gives soul to this song.
The film is about a guy from slums of Mumbai who in a process to find his lady love participates in a Millionaire quiz show and gets trapped to prove that how he knew all the answers provided he comes from a slum.
The film has a beautiful heart with a bundle of scenes which depicts the creativity of the Diretcor like the one in which little Jamal dives in a pond of shit to get an Amitabh Bachhan autograph, most of the scenes in the movie make you realize that how far behind we are with the real world and how in every sense we still enjoy this and dont want to elope out of it.
Coming to the cast, the film comprsises max of of fresh faces along with the talented bollywood faces like Anil kapoor,Irfan khan and Saurabh Shukla. The films protagnist Jamaal malik steals the show in all the 3 roles played by 3 different characters in each phase of his life with the small kid stealing the show.
The only thing about the film which can pinch many of die hard bollywood followers like me is the snail like pace the movie has which takes you off at many moments making you check your watch is functioning or not and literally drags you out of the theatre for a tea.
Slumdog Millionaire is not an extra ordinary film, its a film you most often watch in bollywood. The Oscar & Globe branding accounts for its extra 2 stars which many of the critics has given it.This film will best be liked by the audience who are alien to relaity of life and feel proud that they are not a part of them.
In the end I give Slumdog Millionaire a 2.5 out of 5 and an ek baar dekh lo rating.Watch it for the little Jamaal and his friends,I am sure you will like him.
